Anita Miettunen
I am a writer and illustrator who loves exploring the natural world. My children’s book Big Blue Forever was published by Red Deer Press in 2017 and nominated for several awards in Canada. It tells the story of Canada's largest blue whale skeleton.

I’m an active member of SCBWI and since 2017, I have served as the Regional Advisor for the SCBWI Canada West chapter. Previously, I coordinated critique groups for the CAA in Ottawa and Vancouver. In 2010, I completed the Humber School for Writers Summer Workshop. In September 2020, I was the writer-in-residence at Historic Joy Kogawa House in Vancouver, British Columbia.

I hold two science degrees and an MA in Children’s Literature (University of British Columbia). I have been lucky enough to travel to many places around the world (sometimes on my bicycle! ) and I have lived in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, England, Finland, and Japan.
